A Look Inside the Evergreen State Fairgrounds

In the entire Pacific Northwest, the fair held each year at the Evergreen Fairgrounds is the largest event and the largest draw. It’s been a big deal in Washington for over a century and has grown from a tiny feature for local farmers and cattlemen to a twelve-day extravaganza. Mark your calendar for the end of August and catch this amazing event.

A Quick History

Way back in 1874, a man named Salem Woods decided to put on a display of agricultural feats. From that, the fair has changed locations several times and has grown from eight acres to 193 for the fair, a speedway, and an equestrian park.

The Fairgrounds

Speaking of the grounds, the Equestrian Park is entirely indoor and 60,000 square feet that hosts competitions, rodeos, classes, and expos. The speedway, meanwhile, has its own horsepower. A home track for NASCAR, the speedway also features drag racing and demolition derbies through the season. Finally, throughout the grounds are different buildings that can hold all sizes of events.

The Fair

For nearly two weeks beginning at the end of August, the fairgrounds transform. The fair blends together its roots of agricultural competition of produce, cattle, and demonstrations of skill with the more modern tastes of hundreds of rides and games and musical concerts.

And Beyond

In addition to the Fair and the horse shows and the auto racing, the fairgrounds also present a whole host of festivals, gatherings, and shows throughout the year.
