Five Road Trip Destinations Near Monroe

Monroe, Washington has a pleasant climate year-round, and cool destinations a reasonable distance from the city. When it comes to road trips, this is a great place to be, not because of the great things to see next door, but for all the worthwhile sites a just a road trip’s distance away. Check out these five destinations.

Silver Reef Hotel Casino Spa

This casino, resting in an area full of nightlife, makes for a great one-hour road trip for a night of luck and debauchery. You can try your luck on over 1,200 slot machines and 20 table games. If you visit the casino and win big, treat yourself to slow-roasted prime rib, five-cheese lobster macaroni, or other decadent favorites at The Steak House, Silver Reef’s multiple-award-winning restaurant.

Yakima Valley

This is a longer trip, a little over three hours, but it’s absolutely worth it for wine connoisseurs. The Yakima Valley is well-known for its beautiful fields, bountiful vineyards, hops farms, and distilleries. Visit Washington’s first American Viticultural area, aiming for the eastern end of the valley, in Prosser. Vintner’s Village is a place to try local wines with diverse flavors, but if beer is more to your liking, try the Spirits & Hope Trail. It has 20 designated stops taking you on a journey from the tall trellises to tasty brewery samplings.

Mount Rainier National Park

Photographers, hikers, fans of the outdoors, and many others will come away from the thousand-year-old Alpine forests of Mount Rainier National Park with unforgettable memories. One of the only places in the world with a temperate rainforest, this park has new things to see and do every season. A trip to Crystal Mountain, a gateway community on the north end of the park, will put you near Mount Ranier and charming cabins and vacation rentals, if you don’t plan on staying inside the park.

Copalis Beach

The beaches of Washington’s pacific coast offer miles of surf and sun. This is another three-hour trip, excellent for warmer seasons, or in January for razor clam digging, a bizarre but fun activity with a tasty payoff. Enjoy a day at the beach or book a hotel and spend a weekend exploring the neighborhoods around Copalis and Pacific Beach. Families will enjoy Pacific Paradise Family Fun Center, an amusement park with bumper boats and miniature golf, while couples can relax with a glass of wine at Sipping Serendipity Wine Bar.

Bainbridge Island

Want a shorter trip? Depending on your starting point in Monroe, this trip could take only a half hour to arrive. For a serious historical experience, visit the Bainbridge Island Japanese American Exclusion Memorial. You could also visit the beautiful gardens at Bloedel Reserve. Island Vintners offers a pleasant wine-tasting experience for less than what you’re likely to pay in Takima Valley.

Try one of these five trips and you’re sure to come back with a few interesting stories. Remember, Monroe is a wonderful town, but it also has exciting neighboring attractions in every direction.
