Happy 119th birthday Monroe!

Nestled in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, Monroe is located at the confluence of the Snoqualmie, Skykomish, and Snohomish rivers. Home to the indigenous Skykomish people for hundreds of years, this beautiful land began to attract settlers in 1860’s.
Monroe was founded in 1864 on the banks of the Skykomish river as the town of Park Place. The settlement consisted of nothing more than a few cabins, a school, and a post office until the 1880’s, when rumors of the coming railroad triggered a building boom.
Park Place was renamed Monroe in 1890 to honor U.S. President James Monroe, and was moved further north to be near the tracks of the Great Northern Railway, providing residents the opportunity to market the abundance of local lumber and agricultural products grown in the valley.
Monroe was incorporated on December 20th, 1902, with a population of 325: today, Monroe boasts over 20,000 residents. We are proud to have been a part of this beautiful and vibrant community for twenty three years and look forward to celebrating Monroe for many years to come!
