Tips for Ram Fifth Wheel Towing

Now that you’re back, it’s time for safety first of all. Place wheel chocks underneath each of the trailer’s wheels to make sure it remains securely in place.

Next, it’s time to prepare the plate. If you haven’t done this before or it’s been a while, you may want to apply some grease to the hitch locking plate. This simply helps protect it from damage once it makes contact with the trailer.

Now, you’re ready to make the connection. Make sure your trailer is lined up with the hitch locking plate on a vertical level. All you should have to worry about is guiding your vehicle back into the trailer hitch. Once you’re lined up, slowly back up until the locking plate and hitch connect. Drive forward just a little to make sure you are securely connected.

Lastly, it’s time for some more safety. You need to be sure you add the hitch locking pin, breakaway cable, and trailer wiring harness. Before you head out, make sure the lights on your trailer or RV are working as expected.

Once you’ve removed the wheel chocks and lifted any jacks on the trailer, you’re ready to go. But as you head out, don’t forget to set the brake gain to properly set the truck’s and trailer’s braking systems.
