NY International Auto Show Presents Camp Jeep 2023

New York City is a long way from Monroe Washington in more ways than one but some New York residents had the opportunity to experience a piece of the type of adventure we get to enjoy near Rairdon’s DCJR hometown. That is because visitors attending the New York Autoshow Jeep display got more than just a chance to look at Jeeps and sit inside them. For the first time, they got to visit to Camp Jeep.  The whole idea of the Camp Jeep program is to give visitors an off-road experience that displays Jeep products’ formidable off-road capability.  This year, Camp Jeep brought that experience to Javits Center, in the heart of the most urban location in the country. 

There have been more than 175 Camp Jeep events in the U.S. since Jeep began the program in 2004. This has provided almost 3 million people with a dramatic, tangible off-road experience.  Camp Jeep is also international having been in 5 continents and 15 countries.  Normally Camp Jeep have been stand-alone outdoor events.  But available space in and just outside Javits Center allowed Camp Jeep to set up at the auto show, just as they have at other auto shows, such as in Detroit and Los Angeles.

For the Javits Center, the Camp Jeep exhibit covered approximately 20,000 feet, involved 220,000 pounds of freight, 540 cubic feet of dirt, another 540 cubic feet of wood mulch, 20,000 pounds of boulders, and 12 pine trees up to 16 feet tall.

Participants rode with a trained Jeep driver who takes them on off-road obstacles that even experienced off-roaders often don’t often experience.  At least not one right after another.  These experiences included:

• An artificial 28-foot “Mountain” with a 45-degree approach and climb and another 45-degree decent and departure angle.
• Ground Clearance Stair Climber
• Extreme Break-over
• Off-Camber 
• 30-degree banked wedge

Other Camp Jeep events have been up to 50% larger and include additional challenges such as maneuverability moguls and a tunnel pass-thru.  To display the capability of multiple Jeep models, New York participants had their choice of the following models for their experience:

• Jeep Wrangler Rubicon
• Jeep Wrangler 4xe
• Jeep Wrangler 392
• Jeep Gladiator Rubicon
• Jeep Gladiator Mojave
• Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk 4xe
• Jeep Grand Cherokee L Overland & Summit Reserve

New York City may be a far cry from an off-road location, but such locations do exist once you travel upstate.
