What is the Emergency Vehicle Alert System?

You may have noticed something new about your Uconnect 5 system. Recent updates have included a new Emergency Vehicle Alert System (EVAS), ushering in the next generation of safety and connectivity features across our family of vehicles. By utilizing the built-in connectivity, the EVAS can help make drivers more aware of upcoming dangers on the road, reducing accidents and preventing injuries.
How does the EVAS work?

Now active on over 1.8 million vehicles, the EVAS alerts drivers of emergency vehicles and other nearby road hazards. The alert comes via the Uconnect 5 on all 2018 and newer model year Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, and Ram vehicles. It’s the latest step in safety for the Stellantis Dare Forward 2030, making the auto group the first to implement vehicle-to-everything (V2X) connectivity as a standard feature.
Along with HAAS Alert and their Safety Cloud Platform, the groups teamed up to deliver notifications from fire trucks, ambulances, and other hazards. HAAS Alert has previously found success in digital alerts among road equipment vehicles, like delivering locations from disabled vehicles to tow trucks. They’ve taken their expertise and, combined with Uconnect 5 technology, made it possible for drivers to receive similar alerts.
What’s next for V2X?
With the success of the EVAS, manufacturers hope to add more safety alerts to the V2X list, including the Hazard Enhanced Location Protocol (HELP). Like EVAS, HELP would deliver notifications through the Uconnect 5 to alert drivers of disabled vehicles, which pose a danger to other drivers on the road. Disabled vehicles are among the leading causes of collisions and injuries, resulting in a crash every 7 minutes. Since vehicles don’t always break down in a convenient location or during a bright, sunny day, HELP hopes to mitigate the risk by alerting drivers of an upcoming vehicle’s precise location to make them more aware of the danger. Drivers will be able to activate HELP themselves when needed, or it can activate itself in an emergency situation.
Keep an eye out for other safety-focused features like the new and innovative STLA Brain, STLA AutoDrive, and STLA SmartCockpit coming to battery electric vehicles in 2024.
